For each of the poems of this series, I had two aims: illustrate the immediate action of the poem—the words on the page—and convey through texture, color, and composition how each poem felt to me. The choice of colors, collage paper textures, even scripts or fonts, were mainly dictated more by how the poem feels.
This poetry art collection was borne out of a desperate need for hope: when the pandemic started, as an already disabled/chronically ill woman, I was rightly terrified. Lots of these poems were originally written out of hardship or pain, but others marveled at the glories of the world despite its difficulties. When I read these poems, I feel joy and awe, connection and understanding. Those emotions have been too fleeting at times over the last two years, but I hope these artworks will bring you similar comfort and uplift (and possibly give you some new favorite poems!).
These archival prints of the original 12x16” collages are printed at 9x12” for easier framing. They are printed on acid free Hanhemuhle Agave paper (archival and better for the environment!), and will last a lifetime. They have beautiful deckled edges, so that no matter how you choose to display yours, it will bring you joy and uplift.
